Aftermart of Odisha Cyclone

In the aftermath of cyclone Phailin that left a trail of destruction in southern region and coastal areas, flash floods in all major rivers of northern Odisha districts on Monday wreaked havoc causing wide spread damage to human habitations.
While road links to hundreds of villages remained cut off, telecommunication and power supply snapped in many areas. Officially, three persons in Balasore district and one in Bhadrak district have been reported dead, though no official could confirm about two deaths in Mayurbhanj district.
Preliminary reports indicated more than 11 lakh persons in 20 blocks of Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur and Keonjhar districts have been affected. Balasore district has been the worst hit with around 2.5 lakh persons remaining marooned for the last 24 hours. Around 7.2 lakh people in 930 villages under 144 panchayats of the coastal district have been affected.
