The 40-year-old mother-of-four believes most parents rely far too heavily on TV to entertain their children and wants her brood playing outside as much as possible.
“They don’t watch a lot of television,” Heidi told America’s OK Magazine. “I’m old-fashioned, and I feel like technology ran away with everything. I don’t believe in setting your kids in front of something, always. I think that they have to do things with their hands and they have to get dirty, and they should be outside, play with the dogs, or think of something to do.”
Heidi describes her own upbringing in Germany as very outdoorsy. She spent plenty of time out of the house and that helped to expand her horizons.
“I don’t think it’s good to always think for them,” Heidi says of her children. “When I grew up, I was outside, and you think about what you’re going to do, and sometimes it takes a while to figure out what you want to do.”
Heidi shares children Leni, nine, Henry, eight, Johan, six, and Lou, who turns four on October 9, with estranged husband Seal.
The single mother says although both parents are in entertainment, she’s glad the kids have shown no desire to join the industry. Instead, she encourages them to do whatever interests them and to follow their dreams.
“I haven’t pushed them [into the modeling world],” Heidi revealed. “I’m quite happy that they haven’t asked me to do this. Not that I have anything against it, but because I’m in it, I know a lot about it. They have different interests.”
