SUPER Eagles’ Coach, Stephen Keshi, who returned to Nigeria on Monday after spending some time with his U.S.-based family, has declared that every member of the senior national team should be ready for hard work when the team reconvenes on Sunday.
The Super Eagles are expected to move to camp on Sunday in preparation for the October 13 World Cup qualifier against Ethiopia.
According to a close confidant of the coach, Keshi has warned the players that all of them must be in the team’s Abuja camp latest by Monday, adding that training would begin in earnest on Monday afternoon.
The source said, “Keshi came in quietly and immediately started consultations with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to ensure that everything is in order before the players start arriving for the game.
“He believes that this is not the time for talks hence he has been quiet since coming in, but be sure that within the week, he will reveal his programme to those that should know.”
The source, who pleaded anonymity, revealed that the agreement with the players was that “those playing on Saturday would arrive on Sunday, while those, whose games are scheduled for Sunday will be in Nigeria on Monday morning.”
Meanwhile, former Malawi Coach, Tom Saintfiet, has warned the Super Eagles’ defenders to be prepared for a tough fight from Ethiopian attackers.
According to Saintfiet: “They have some good counter-attack strikers like Saladin Said, who finds it easy to score goals and so the Nigerian defence must be careful, because sometimes they are weak at the back, and so if Ethiopia can take advantage of that, then they will score goals,” Saintfiet told a local radio station.
The first leg match between Nigeria and Ethiopia will be held on October 13 in Addis Ababa.
