Chelsea
are still targeting Wesley Sneijder and the Galatasaray midfielder should move
to Stamford Bridge for the sake of his international career, according to
Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal.
Sneijder
was an integral part of the Inter Milan side which won the Serie A, Coppa
Italia and Champions League Treble in 2010 under the management of Jose
Mourinho, who is now back in charge at Chelsea.
Van
Gaal has urged Sneijder, 29, to reunite with Mourinho coach in the more
competitive Premier League to raise his form before the World Cup finals in
Brazil next year.
"I
know Chelsea and Jose Mourinho want Sneijder," Van Gaal told Turkish
newspaper Vatan. "In my opinion, if possible Sneijder should leave
Galatasaray and join Chelsea.
"Playing
under Mourinho again would improve his performances and help him regain his
form for the national team."
Former
Ajax and Real Madrid playmaker Sneijder appeared six times for the Dutch in
their World Cup qualifiers, which ended with them topping Group D with nine
wins and a draw. He started six matches in that campaign, scoring one goal and
claiming two assists.
